Workshop Description

Music teachers often instruct students to begin learning an instrumental piece by singing it, because singing causes them to interpret it lyrically. They become more aware of how phrases rise and fall, where pauses should be taken for breaths, and what notes should be emphasized. In short, singing a piece of music enables students to enjoy a deeper understanding of it.

Whether your child is studying piano, violin, guitar, or any other instrument, or even has no musical training at all, singing the works of Bach, Beethoven and other composers will make the works more accessible and memorable. In this workshop, participants will learn to sing several songs form the Grammy Award Nominated series of Beethoven's Wig recordings. Leading them will be the series creator, Richard Perlmutter, who will share anecdotes and historical information about each piece and its composer and will also teach some basics of music theory and composition.
