Beethoven's Wig
In Concert
If you think it's unlikely that a kid would shout "you rock!" at a classical music concert -- or that parents, children and grandparents would be seen singing, dancing, and laughing along to classical music -- you haven't experienced Beethoven's Wig, the classical music sensation for the whole family.
Created by lyricist, lead vocalist and producer Richard Perlmutter, Beethoven's Wig is zany lyrics set to the greatest hits of classical music. Filled with fact and fancy about the world's greatest composers and their compositions, Beethoven's Wig opens the door to "serious music" and provides a foundation for classical music that will last a lifetime.
Each Beethoven's Wig concert is an interactive adventure. Richard Perlmutter gets the audience into the act by encouraging them to sing along, dance the Can Can, and answer some classical music trivia questions. Entertaining anecdotes about the fact and fancy of classical composers and their compositions are woven throughout the performance.
Symphony Orchestra Show
When Richard Perlmutter and his group of fours singers perform with symphony orchestras, Beethoven's Wig provides the conductor's score and all the parts. One two-hour rehearsal is required either the day of the performance or the day before. Beethoven's Wig can provide a conductor upon request.
When No Orchestra is Available
Beethoven Wig has their own pianist who accompanies them when no orchestra is available. The repertoire draws upon Beethoven's Wig works that feature lyrics set to great piano masterpieces. It also features piano reductions of selected orchestral works. At these performances additional instruments may be included.
Master Classes
At educational institutions, Beethoven's Wig performances can be combined with master classes from any of our performers. Classical and opera classes are offered by Jonathan Mack and Elin Carlson. Popular Singing Classes are conducted by Jon Joyce and Susan Boyd. Seminars and classes are also offered for students interested in pursuing a career in music. Richard Perlmutter offers songwriting classes.
Other Appearance Options
When a piano is not available, Beethoven's Wig performs to a CD which that contains orchestral background tracks of its works. The repertoire is the same as for orchestral performances. In addition, Beethoven's Wig does a limited number of performances with a scaled back group featuring Richard and two singers.
